Our Collective
What began in 2008 as a think tank focused on issues and concerns of the youth sector and a platform to promote the 5th Space agenda, soon evolved into a collective with the purpose of collaboration, building solidarity, deepening learning, influencing youth policy, developing robust responses to social challenges through resources and tools, and nurturing youth leadership with soul and at scale (scoul) through collective action.
In late 2013, in one of the meetings of the unManifesto campaign that had brought together young leaders of organisations from across the country who had made a concerted effort to bring youth voices to the manifesto making process of India, a spontaneous invitation was made to the partners to join the collective. A love letter was sent to all the unManifesto partners asking the same question formally. The love was returned by an outpouring of further love letters from at least 20 members who said a resounding Yes!! This was the genesis of the ComMutiny Forum as we know it today, which is made up of more than 35 members (check numbers).
Sometime in the middle of 2018, a milestone, as ComMutiny completed a decade, the board and forum resolved to expand the ecosystem by incubating regional collectives. By 2019, 7 state level collectives had been formed, bringing in an additional 60 members, taking us to almost 70 new districts in the country. As our national footprint expanded, so did our reach to more diverse communities of young people. Through our state collectives, we continue to advocate for 5th Spaces for young people and create spaces that encourage collaborations and synergies to strengthen youth work across the country. The confluence of energies brought about by a variety of experiences and learnings from local contexts help in creating new knowledge, developing new tools and create a more robust model for social change experiments for and with youth
